Inspired by Nkato’s Killer Queen and the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the FP. This is something I’d actually sell the Fiesta ST for.

And that should be pretty much it. I really want a car that is a) a better tourer, b) bigger and c) more of an expression of me.

I’m not strong on engine knowledge, but what kind of mileage do you think you can squeeze out of a 5.0 Coyote?

Total estimated car/parts would be about $17K Canadian. Labour would be... more.

You could probably grab a Maurader for your base and swap the 6 speed in. Comfort and a little style. The 5.0 is thirsty but it’s a solid motor with a ton of parts availability.

With the right tunes and toggleable profiles for the engine, I’d say it’s possible to get 30 mpg. Specially if the transmission is the new Ford 10 speed.

Yeah, I think 25-30mpg is the best you could hope for. Which isn’t bad. I get 24.5mpg on the ST with 94 octane right now. $$$$$$$$$$

Do yourself a favor and don’t start with a P71. By now they’re mostly all beat, even the ‘detective cars’ people sell haven’t been well maintained. Go get yourself a privately owned LX or LX Sport and you can add the P71 suspension/brakes etc and exterior cues.

I mean, I’m not trying to like give you an epiphany or anything. But when you’ve listed one of your reasons for wanting to build a CVPI as “it’s unique and rare” I question your logic and reasoning.

It’s a mental exercise I guess I don’t understand. Striving to be unique for the sake of being unique seems weird and confusing.

I bought a low-milage example of a P71 at auction a while back; I love the mess out of it. I defy anyone to find a better vehicle of any kind for 2 grand. I would totally cram a blown coyote in the thing & keep the auto trans. These things are lo-fi, easy to work on, & inordinately burly; they’re freaking tanks. I intend to drive mine til the wheels fall off. Fuck the haters.

Watch Cleetus McFarland’s Project Neighbor. He was originally going to go with a Coyote crate but then found a destroyed S197 GT500 with a good 5.4/TR6060 combo in it and got the whole car for $6500. The swap is actually pretty straightforward with the 5.4 too.

You do if you take out the automatic and put in a manual. You just have to mount a clutch pedal on the floor and shifter somewhere reasonable. If you have the time and money, you can do just about anything you want to a car... whether or not anyone else thinks it’s practical.

That’s the general consensus from the P71 guys I talked to. They usually end up trading up to an LX Sport or grab an LX and start adding P71 parts. I’ve driven all 3 versions and the LX Sport is the one to go with. I was lucky that I could take my time because it was about a year and a half before I found one and I still paid more than I wanted to.
